I know many of you are perusing this site just to get away from The Madness, but i'm in the midst of George Lakoff's book and about to head to my favroite local sports bar to watch the NCAA tourney.  Putting this together has led me to frame the glory of March Madness from the perspective of the liberal values we all identify with so much around these parts.

The greatness of March Madness is that it appeals to the nurturing values that Lakoff says are at the heart of the liberal/progressive movement. Those values include fairness, opportunity, trust, open communication, and empathy (pick up a copy of Lakoff's book and look at p.13 - its right there in bold). These are the same values that are embodied by the NCAA tournament...
